21 years of practice

“What the eyes see, the soul remembers.”

Ivy Wolf began painting in her early twenties — not toward a plan, but toward a feeling: that the canvas was the one place where nothing needed to be explained. What started as studio work grew, over two decades, into a practice shaped by land and movement. The light over the Bahamas. The red earth of Sedona. The Pacific at Laguna Beach. She does not paint scenes. She paints what those places leave behind in the body.

The practice is expressionist in the deepest sense: emotion first, observation second. A canvas might require twenty sittings, or two. It is finished when it holds the feeling that began it — not when it describes the view. This is a discipline that takes years to trust. Ivy has earned that trust.

Twenty-one years also means a hand that has learned to speak directly. The early work carried urgency and uncertainty in equal measure. The current work carries urgency and clarity. The edges are deliberate. The marks are chosen. What looks effortless is the result of thousands of hours learning when to stop.

Her source is always place — filtered through a photographer’s eye and recalled by a painter’s memory. The Wolf Life, her photographic practice, captures the field reference: light, colour, mood, caught as it happens. The painting begins where the photograph ends. The photograph records what was there. The canvas records what it meant.

Each work leaves her studio once. No copies, no prints, no editions beyond the original. A certificate of authenticity travels with every canvas — the series number, a text written for that work alone, her signature sealed in UV resin. This is not policy. It is the practice itself.

Authenticity

The certificate of authenticity

Every original work leaves Ivy's studio with a signed certificate of authenticity. The canvas carries her signature on the back, sealed in UV resin. Each work holds a series number, a poetic text written for it alone, and a watermark. A commissioned work will never be reproduced in any form.

Collection pieces — painted on Ivy's own initiative — may be issued as a finite, numbered edition clearly labelled as such. The original stays singular and keeps its provenance.
